Olivia Barraclough

Olivia (of The Badger Sett Studio) is a painter and printmaker living in a small village near Carnforth. She trained in glassblowing and architectural glass at Edinburgh College of Art before working as a secondary school art teacher.

Olivia is fascinated with the history and beauty of old 'limited use' objects. Old papers provide a fascinating snapshot into the lives of people in the past and Olivia is particularly interested in maps and old British Railways paperwork. She uses watercolours to paint her pieces, using layers of paint to play with transparency and opacity, revealing the surfaces and text of the vintage ephemera underneath.

Olivia creates her copper foil framed paintings entirely by hand in her studio. She learnt the skills of stained glass alongside her other passions of ceramics and printmaking.

She also creates prints using various printmaking techniques and burnishes these prints by hand. These are available as mounted and framed prints.
